Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to rewire and reorganize itself to form new connections. Neuroscientists say “Neurons that fire together, wire together.” This means there’s a relationship between our thought patterns and structural changes in the brain. Repeated complaining rewires the brain to make future complaining easier, and over time it can become a default behavior. Complaining also releases the “fight or flight” hormone, cortisol, which in excess can weaken the immune system. Keeping a gratitude journal and practicing meditation and mindfulness can help
rewire the brain in a positive direction and break the negativity cycle.
