In a recent study, researchers found an association between higher levels of omega-3s
(EPA and DHA) and better brain blood flow and cognition. The 166 particpants were
seperated into two groups, those with higher omega-3 levels and those with lower
omega-3 levels. Using brain imaging, they found a correlation between increased blood
flow in regions of the brain associated with memory and learning and higher levels of
omega-3. The converse was also true; those with lower levels of omega-3 had reduced
brain blood flow. Experts say it’s possible that relatively simple changes in diet could
improve cognitive function.
