Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. As with men, women may experience pain, tightness or discomfort in the chest during a heart attack. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, pain in one or both arms, cold sweats, feeling lightheaded, back or jaw pain, and unexplained fatigue or weakness. For some women, symptoms may be present a month or so before their heart attack. If you experience symptoms of a heart attack, call 911 immediately!
