Diabetes & Lifestyle Changes

Regular exercise and a healthier diet may allow type-2 diabetes patients on blood-sugar-lowering prescriptions (but not insulin) to cut back on their meds.  In a recent study of overweight people with diabetes, half of participants were assigned to an intensive intervention.  The program consisted of 30 minutes of excercise 5-6 times a wee, 30 minutes of strength training 2-3 times a week, 10,000 steps a day and a weight-loss Mediteranean-style diet.  The other half were given diabetes medical counseling and lifestyle advice.  After a year, of the intensive group, 73% were able to cut back on their meds and half could eventually stop taking them altogether.  Contact us at Medicap Pharmacy if you are interested in beginning our intervention lifestyle program.
