According to a recent analysis of 37,000 women ages 50-79, losing excess
weight may help reduce the risk of uterine cancer, especially for those who are
obese. Compared to women whose weight stayed the same, a weight loss of
5% over 3 years’ time was linked with a 29% lower risk of developing this type
of cancer over the next 11 years. There is a strong association between uterine
cancer and excess weight because fat cells produce estrogen, a hormone that
increases growth of cells in the lining of the uterus.
