Coffee contains antioxidants, nutrients and minerals. Drinking coffee has been
linked to lower risk of Parkinson’s disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia. However,
a new study found an association between coffee consumption and lower risk of
death. Participants in the study were from the Mediterranean region, were average
age 37 and were followed for 10 years. Investigators found that those who drank
about 4 cups of coffee a day had a 64% lower risk of death than those who drank
little or no coffee at all. This study is observational and doesn’t prove a cause-andeffect
relationship, only an association.
