Benefits of Beets

Beets contain nitrates, which convert in the body to nitric oxide, which relaxes and opens blood vessels, improving blood flow, blood pressure and heart rate.  The increased blood flow brings more oxygen to the brain, improving brain function.  Betalin in beets helps reduce inflammation. Beets are high in fiber, which can improve digestive health. Beets also contain cancer-fighting antioxidants. They are high in zinc, copper, iron and vitamins A and C, nutrients that may boost the immune system. The lutein and zeaxanthin in beets may help slow agerelated vision problems. Caution: Beets are high in oxalates; limit intake if prone to kidney stones.
