Recovering from surgery can be stressful, but preparing for your homecoming beforehand
will help. Enlist extra help ahead of time for meals, cleaning, shopping and
laundry. If you can’t get up much, plan to have someone with you to receive visitors,
flowers, meals, etc. You may also need to set up rides to doctor appointments. If you
can’t sleep in your own bedroom, arrange a space in your central living area with a
recliner or hospital bed and near a bathroom. Remove throw rugs or other objects in
your walkways to reduce the risk of falling. Make sure your bathroom has any needed
additions such a shower bench or safety bars.
